On the radio, again

Anyone who already listened to pop radios will probably be able to understand this fact : the majority of pop songs sound just alike, as they all have kind of the same beat.  Musicians or guitarists will agree on the fact that here again, the majority of pop songs are all but difficult to play as a large number has a rotation of four chords through all the song.  But as stated by a study, the songs sound all the same and that is why we would like it.  According to this same study from the Medical University of Vienna, the relationship between the complexity of the songs of an album and its sales is that an album with familiar music would sell best.  So with that being said, if you want to produce an album that will become very popular, you do not need to search too far.  You take four chords that go well together such as C G Am F (chords of the song Let It Be from the Beatles, one of the most famous song of the group).  Then, of course you need the lyrics.  If you listen to the songs on the radio, it does not need to be lyrics too profound or with a huge meaning to be good.  You can think here to the song Happy by Pharrell Williams, where the singer sings basically the same thing through all the song, but it becomes the best-selling song of 2014 in the United States.  It is a song that get you a smile on your face when you listen to it and that is what people want, feel something listening to a song.  There is an other reason why simple songs or familiar songs become that famous.  Record companies, who are there to promote songs, are only comfortable to promote things they already know will sell as basic pop songs.  Once it is promoted, it goes on every station of radio, to be played again and again.  That is what the vast majority of people want to hear : simple songs that can sound essentially like the others.  There to be listened by the most of people, radio stations understood this fact perfectly.  Making play pop songs should attract the larger part of the audience.
